I beg

the Appoint

I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your notifications

by Lord Stanley to the Office of Secretary of State for the Colonies,

that the terms upon which my appointment was given to me are

those stated in my letters, and in those of Captain Dawson, R.N., dated the 15th December,

21st January last, and 27th January.

And to state in reply to the first,

before my departure from England.

namely Salary £405 per annum (on embarkation), Passage free, Outfit, – 3 months salary in advance

to be paid for my passage out,

and the allowance of half salary during my passage to the Colony.

I have to hear of another statement made by Colonel Birch and Captain Dawson, R.N., viz: Salary

£405 from the date of my arrival in the Colony, £100 for outfit,

and the allowance of half salary during my passage.

£200 less in value than the other being £200 left

I therefore solicit the favor of your kind consideration of these particulars,

as well as the smallness of the Salary which will be necessarily

to meet the expenses.
